Liverpool Eyeing Leeds United Gem in Potential £45m Summer Move

Recent reports have suggested that Liverpool could target Leeds United forward Crysencio Summerville this summer, in a deal that could be worth around £45million. The Reds are reportedly set for a busy summer following the return of Michael Edwards and the new Sporting Director, Richard Hughes.

The upcoming departure of Jurgen Klopp could also set the stage for a major revamp within Liverpool’s ranks this summer. A number of first-team players have been linked with a move away from Anfield, but today we’re going to be focusing on a potential incoming.

Who is Crysencio Summerville?

Many Liverpool supporters will remember Summerville from Leeds United’s shock victory at Anfield in October 2022. The 22-year-old scored the winner in that game, which was a major factor behind the Dutchman’s rise that now sees him placed on the radar of a number of Europe’s top clubs.

Summerville is predominantly a winger for his current club and he has enjoyed a fantastic season, so far. Many are tipping the youngster to pick up the EFL Championship Player of the Season award.

This comes as the winger sits on 19 goals and nine assists so far this season, sitting amongst the top scorers in the division. But it’s not just his goal involvements that have caught the eye, with his overall game being praised by many.

Perfect Michael Edwards Signing

If Liverpool really see such high potential in Summerville, then it would be the typically perfect Michael Edwards type of signing. During Edwards’ last spell at the club, the Reds became well-known for their intelligent signings from clubs lower down in the pyramid than themselves.

The likes of Andy Robertson, Gini Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri all joined from relegated sides and became important members of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool squad. However, it is important to note that all of these players joined for fees much smaller than the £45million fee being labelled alongside Summerville.

Summerville also suits the ideal age profile of many of Michael Edwards’ previous signings. Edwards and Hughes have both always leaned towards signing younger players that can grow into crucial players at Anfield, which Summerville certainly has the ability to do so.

Liverpool’s Front-Line Shake Up

A number of forwards have been linked with a move to Liverpool, suspectedly due to the ongoing speculation surrounding the Reds’ current crop of attackers. Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah have both been heavily linked with a summer departure, which could open up a move for someone like Summerville.

Other names like Pedro Neto, Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams have also been linked with moves to Anfield. However, Should either Salah or Diaz leave in the summer, the fans will almost certainly expect a big name to replace them.

I suspect the fans would be quite underwhelmed by a potential acquisition of Summerville, but for the right price it could be a genius signing by the Reds. Another big club will definitely snap him up if Edwards doesn’t.
