Liverpool have been left out of the 2025 Club World Cup after FIFA confirmed the qualification criteria.

Missing out on the international tournament will be a blow for the Reds as they could have benefited from a £50 million windfall, per The Guardian.

FIFA decided in March that a maximum of two teams from one country can participate in the 2025 Club World Cup, which will be played in the United States from June 15 to July 13.

Thirty-two teams will participate in the event, which will serve as a prelude to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The governing body confirmed that Manchester City and Chelsea, who are the winners of the 2023 and 2021 editions of the Champions League, will be the two Premier League sides guaranteed qualification.

However, if Arsenal win the European competition this season, they will be England’s third representative.

Liverpool, who reached the final in 2022 and the last eight a year earlier, also hoped to secure a place.

However, because the defining factor was UEFA’s Champions League coefficient and not club coefficient between 2021 and 2024, they were denied a place in the event.

Manchester United also failed to make the cut due to their low coefficient ranking.

The other European clubs competing in the 2025 Club World Cup are Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Porto and Benfica, while the remaining four spots are still up for grabs.
