Liverpool are preparing to host Wolves at Anfield in a Premier League fixture that carries significant implications for both sides. Arne Slot’s team is navigating a challenging period with key players missing due to injuries and suspensions, while Wolves arrive looking to disrupt the Reds’ rhythm and boost their own league position.
Liverpool’s defensive plans will need recalibration, especially with the absence of Curtis Jones following his red card in the Merseyside derby against Everton. The midfielder’s dismissal, after confronting Abdoulaye Doucoure, leaves a noticeable void in the squad.
However, there’s positive news concerning Trent Alexander-Arnold. The right-back, who returned from a knee injury during the midweek game, could feature from the start. His presence adds creative impetus from deep positions, though concerns about his match sharpness persist.
Slot also has to contend with the touchline bans handed to both himself and assistant Sipke Hulshoff. Their absence will test Liverpool’s ability to maintain tactical discipline from the sidelines.

The midfield presents a key battleground. Alexis Mac Allister is expected to anchor the centre, providing defensive cover while linking up with the attack. Alongside him, Ryan Gravenberch offers a dynamic presence, with Dominik Szoboszlai likely to operate further forward.
Wolves, known for their aggressive press, will attempt to disrupt this structure. Liverpool must remain composed when transitioning from defence to attack, especially under the likely pressure from Wolves’ energetic midfielders.
Liverpool’s attacking strength remains a primary weapon. Mohamed Salah’s consistency, particularly in home fixtures, continues to provide the Reds with a reliable goal threat. His partnership with Luis Diaz on the left could stretch Wolves’ backline.
Cody Gakpo’s fitness remains uncertain. If unavailable, Darwin Nunez is on standby to spearhead the attack. Wolves will need to be wary of Liverpool’s capacity for quick, incisive transitions, with Salah often the catalyst for such movements.
Goalkeeper: Alisson
Defenders: Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas
Midfielders: Mac Allister, Gravenberch
Forwards: Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo, Diaz
Doubts: Gakpo
Injured: Jones, Morton
Suspended: Jones, Slot, Hulshoff
Liverpool’s ability to adapt without key personnel could prove decisive. Wolves, meanwhile, will be determined to capitalise on any signs of vulnerability as they look to secure a valuable away result.
