Barcelona, Juventus and Inter Milan, along with the Merseyside club, are keen on signing the Ligue 1 attacker who has enjoyed a successful spell with the French side.

David scored 19 goals in the league last season and this season, he has already scored five goals in the league and three goals in the Champions League, showing his ability to finish off chances at the biggest stage.

The Reds are currently concerned about the future of Mohamed Salah at the club and their priority would be to keep the Egyptian attacker and extend his contract.

However, their interest in signing David shows that manager Arne Slot is not too confident about Darwin Nunez and could bring the 24-year-old striker to the club to replace the Uruguayan.

Nunez has been the back up to Diogo Jota in attack this season and Slot’s team selection has shown that he does not prefer to play Nunez when all his attackers are fit.

After a quiet summer transfer window, the Reds are expected to step into the market next year and make new signings in attack and midfield.

As per the report, Inter Milan are currently the only club to make contact with David’s entourage in order to get ahead of the competition and sign the attacker.

Liverpool have to act fast and make use of David’s contract situation by contacting the player in January. The Lille forward will be able to negotiate a pre-agreement contract with other clubs at the start of the new year.

Liverpool interest in Jonathan David is bad news for Darwin Nunez

Nunez has struggled this season, despite scoring in the Champions League against RB Leipzig this week.

He has only played when Jota has been unavailable and if the Reds are keen on a new striker, it means they have made up their mind to allow Nunez to leave the club.

David would add threat to the Liverpool attack and considering he is available as a free agent, a move for him from Liverpool is a no brainer.
