Liverpool have Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham on their ‘radar’, but they are facing a battle to welcome him to Anfield, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The Reds broke their record transfer fee when they forked out £85million to sign Darwin Nunez from Benfica in the summer, but it appears they are looking to surpass that figure again within the next year.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool are working on a deal which would see Bellingham head to Merseyside next summer and are making strong progress.
The report suggests the 15-cap England international has been identified by the Reds’ recruitment team as a midfielder who is capable of taking Jurgen Klopp’s side to the next level.
However, Liverpool are not Bellingham’s only suitors as Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have also joined the race for his signature.
Real Madrid are keen on securing the 19-year-old’s services as well, but it is understood that Dortmund are unwilling to sanction his departure for less than £103million.
Despite facing stiff competition, Liverpool are confident that they are in pole position and Bellingham is expected to join next summer.
O’Rourke understands that Bellingham is still on Liverpool’s shortlist of targets even though the summer transfer window closed earlier this month.
However, he feels the Reds are not the only club chasing the Dortmund man, while they will face competition for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo and West Ham United captain Declan Rice as well.
O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “The Jude Bellingham move has been talked about quite a lot, so he’s somebody who obviously figures on Liverpool’s radar.
“But he is not just on Liverpool’s radar. All the top clubs in Europe would be after Jude Bellingham, as they would probably be after Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice.”

Bellingham was back in England earlier this week and scored during Dortmund’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League group stage.
Although the teenager was unable to guide his current employers to a valuable three points, he earned praise from Pep Guardiola as the reigning Premier League champions’ boss claimed he is an ‘exceptional’ central midfielder.
Bellingham is at the top of the leaderboard when it comes to average match ratings among his Dortmund team-mates in the Bundesliga this season, emphasising that he is a consistently high performer.
