Transfer News: Real Madrid latest entrant in Ben White race as Liverpool links continue

According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central (h/t The Express), Liverpool are joined in their pursuit of English centre-back, Ben White, by Spanish giants, Real Madrid.

The defender has a plethora of clubs after him, including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United. In fact, the Gunners even had a £40million rejected for him recently.

But it seems that Carlo Ancelotti, who managed in the Premier League with Everton last season, has set his sight on the Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back. White’s stock has risen rapidly.

He impressed for the Seagulls in an otherwise forgettable campaign where they escaped relegation and then went on to make the 26-man England squad for the 2020 UEFA Euros.

Ignore the White noise

His current club has set a £50million price tag for the 24-year-old as clubs continue to circle the man who also had a successful spell in the Championship with Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.

While the move makes sense for clubs like the Gunners and the Red Devils, Liverpool’s involvement seems a bit surprising, considering the fact that they have already sealed a move for Ibrahima Konate.

The 21-year-old French defender, who was a central figure in Julian Nagelsmann’s RB Leipzig squad, will join the Reds for the next campaign. In light of this, it seems impractical to add Ben White to an already loaded roster.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip would all return from injuries. On top of that, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams have also made their case to be in the squad for next season.

Amid this, it makes more sense for Klopp to sign a midfielder or a striker. Georginio Wijnaldum is off to PSG while Roberto Firmino could really use some competition for places.
