According to Calcio Mercato, cited by LFC Transfer Room, Liverpool have shown interest in Cagliari defender Sebastian Walukiewicz, who is valued at £8 million. At 21, it comes as no surprise to see the centre-back in amongst the news. Liverpool are always looking to build towards the future and Walukiewicz would certainly tick that box.

However, ironically, after playing midfielders at the back at times last season, a central defender is the last position Jurgen Klopp needs to boost having already signed Ibrahima Konate this summer.

The Reds now have four world-class centre-backs to choose from with Joel Matip, Konate, Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk at their disposal. Behind them in the pecking order is Nat Phillips, who presents Klopp with an added option if necessary.

The fact is, adding another centre-back would be seen as an aimless acquisition. Therefore, don’t expect Walukiewicz to be seen at Anfield anytime soon,

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

As previously touched on, the Reds aren’t really in need of another central defender this summer. Sebastian Walukiewicz is a good option for the future, but Konate has already ticks that box for Liverpool.

It’s also important to note that the Reds opted out of a move for former loanee Ozan Kabak, who was valued at the same price this summer. Therefore, a deal for Walukiewicz remains unlikely despite reports.
