Liverpool’s resurgence under Arne Slot has been one of the standout narratives this season. The Dutch manager has reinvigorated the Reds, delivering an unbeaten Champions League campaign thus far and maintaining an eight-point cushion at the top of the Premier League. However, Liverpool’s preparations for their pivotal match against Manchester City are clouded by concerns over key players Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate.
Liverpool’s emphatic 2-0 victory over Real Madrid at Anfield not only underlined their dominance but also highlighted potential vulnerabilities. Conor Bradley, who had been deputising effectively, limped off in the final stages with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. To compound matters, Ibrahima Konate required treatment post-match, visibly distressed after a gruelling encounter.
Speaking about the injuries, Slot admitted there was uncertainty regarding their severity: “No, not yet. I know where they have pain, but how bad or how good it is is difficult to judge so close after the game,” Slot explained, leaving fans waiting for further updates.

The timing couldn’t be more precarious, with Manchester City set to visit Anfield in what could be a defining moment in the Premier League title race.
Injuries have been a recurring theme this season, with Liverpool already managing absences to key players such as Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Slot acknowledged the challenges, saying: “This is what happens during a season. We missed Trent today, we missed Jota today, we missed Alisson today. We didn’t miss Trent because he was on the bench, but he couldn’t play from the start.”
Despite these setbacks, Slot has consistently found ways to adapt, relying on the depth of his squad: “If not, someone else has to step up and until now this season everybody that I [have] selected to start has shown up. That’s also what is going to happen on Sunday, if they can play but also if they can’t play then other ones will step up.”

With Konate’s potential absence, Liverpool may need to reshuffle their defensive line. The Frenchman has been instrumental in stabilising the backline, and losing him for a key fixture could expose Liverpool to City’s potent attack.
One silver lining for Liverpool is the availability of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The England international, recovering from a minor hamstring issue, was an unused substitute against Real Madrid and could slot back into the starting XI if Bradley is unavailable.
Alexander-Arnold’s creative influence and ability to dictate play from deep positions could prove crucial against a Manchester City side desperate to turn their form around. Guardiola’s team is winless in six games and has lost five of those, marking one of the most challenging spells in the Spaniard’s tenure.
Liverpool’s encounter with Manchester City isn’t just another fixture; it’s a litmus test for both teams. For Liverpool, it’s an opportunity to solidify their title credentials and underline the effectiveness of Slot’s management. For City, it represents a chance to stop the rot and reignite their campaign.
Should Bradley and Konate be unavailable, it will test Liverpool’s adaptability once again. Yet, under Arne Slot, the Reds have repeatedly shown their resilience. With an in-form squad, tactical clarity, and an Anfield atmosphere that has historically unsettled City, Liverpool will feel confident heading into the weekend.
