Liverpool are in position to sign a French wonderkid. They're just waiting on that green light.

Liverpool are in a strong position this summer. They’ve made several elite signings, with Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz signing for big fees.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has arrived from Valencia, too, completing a deal set a year ago. And now Hugo Ekitike is expected to complete his own move shortly.

This has all taken an incredible amount of money to pull off, of course. Liverpool haven’t been shy to spend on players they believe can improve them and while that’s always been the case, it’s particularly so in 2025.

Now, though, Liverpool are feeling a bit more cautious. But only in the sense that they’ll try to sell players before buying them going forward.

That does leave them on the brink of a move for a French wonderkid, however.

Liverpool and Malick Fofana

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri claims Liverpool are on standby for Malick Fofana. Essentially, they're waiting for a spot in the squad to open up before pushing through a move for the winger.

"Liverpool FC remains on standby for Malick Fofana," he wrote on Twitter.

"As soon as Federico Chiesa’s departure to Serie A is finalized, the Reds are expected to move for the Belgian, who is highly rated by the scouting department."
