Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher has hit out at PSG signing Georginio Wijnaldum after the Dutchman claimed he decided to leave Anfield because of abuse from fans on social media.

Wijnaldum, 30, completed his free transfer to PSG this week after seeing out his contract at Anfield following a five-year stint.

Carragher has now dismissed Wijnaldum's claims, suggesting his motives for leaving were purely financial.

"I love Gini but this is not right," Carragher said on Twitter. "Social media is a circus and every club has clowns.

"Turn off your notifications and if it's bothering you that much delete the app! He wanted more money the club said no, that's football!"
