Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is confident that a centre-back pairing of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil Van Dijk can make them title winners again.

The Reds put in a dismal defense of their Premier League title last term, squeezing into the top four in the last weeks of the season.

But they were missing key defenders all campaign.

Van Dijk is now fit, while new signing Konate has impressed in preseason.

"That has the potential to be the best centre-back partnership in the Premier League" said Carragher, per the Liverpool Echo.

"I mean Van Dijk is the best centre back in the Premier League, you may have to give him a few months to get back up to speed, but Konate I watched at RB Leipzig.

"He looks like he's got that presence, he's certainly got that pace. He looks really spectacular."
