Liverpool hero Aldridge: Benitez was never going to be accepted by Everton fans
Tribal Football
Liverpool hero John Aldridge says Rafa Benitez was never going to be accepted by Everton fans.
Former Reds manager Benitez was sacked by Everton on Sunday.
"Rafa at Everton was never going to work, but he has a confidence and some would say arrogance that makes him believe he can do any job," Aldridge told sundayworld.com.
"Benitez at Everton was a bad idea from day one. He would have needed to win consistently to keep the fans on side and he probably needed to do even better than another manager to keep the fans quiet.
"There is a reason why former Liverpool players don't play for Everton and the same goes with managers. Everton fans don't like people associated with Liverpool and Benitez's success at Anfield added to his problem.
"I don't know if Rafa will get another job in English football, but he will get another massive pay off from Everton and will probably be back on the managerial roundabout somewhere else sooner rather than later."
