Liverpool manager Matt Beard says that his side will take nothing for granted against bottom club Bristol City this weekend and that The Reds will have to earn the right to win the game.

The Merseyside club travel to Ashton Gate to face The Robins on Saturday afternoon. There’s a chance that Bristol City will be relegated back to the Barclays Women’s Championship this weekend if results don’t go their way.

Liverpool will be expected to win at Ashton Gate, however, manager Beard says that three points are not a given and that his side will have to work hard to earn them.

“You don’t have any definite right to win a game, you have to earn that right,” Beard said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “Bristol City are fighting for their lives, we know that. We know that they’re going to leave nothing on that pitch but at the same time, that might be beneficial to us because they have to win it, so they’ll have to come at us.

“It’ll be an interesting game, we’ve had two tough games against them; we had the 1-1 draw at home and narrowly beat them in the FA Cup 1-0. We know they’re not easy to play against. For us, we have to make sure that we turn up and bounce back after the Manchester City defeat.”

Just two points separate fifth-placed Liverpool and Manchester United in fourth. Beard says that his side are keen to hunt The Red Devils down between now and the end of the campaign.

He said “We’ve got Tottenham who are doing well and Manchester United in our reach, so we’ve still got plenty of points to play for.

“We spoke this week about wanting to try and finish fourth, try to close that gap on Arsenal [in third] as best we can and that’s our main focus.

“We’ve had a relatively good season and we now play Bristol City who have been on a tough run. After that, we’ve got three tough games.

“From our perspective, we want to finish as high up the league table as we can. We’ve already hit our target that we spoke about in pre-season; statistically finishing better than we’ve done, so it’s about finishing the season as strong and as positively as we can.”

Liverpool’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Bristol City kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
