Liverpool have reportedly enquired about Lazio centre-forward Joaquin Correa ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Italian outlet Il Messaggero, as transcribed by Inside Futbol, Liverpool are interested in the striker as they look to bolster their squad this summer.

The report claims Correa is keen to move on from the Serie A side and Lazio are willing to accept half of his €80m release clause in order to let him leave.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

€40m, even though it is half his release clause, does not seem like a good deal on paper for Correa when you consider other valuations for players Liverpool are said to be interested in. For example, Fiorentina are reportedly demanding the same figure for in-form Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Both Correa and Vlahovic play in the Serie A and the latter has outperformed the Lazio forward by a considerable distance this season. Correa has only managed three goals and three assists in 21 Serie A appearances for Lazio, whilst Vlahovic has 15 goals and two assists in 29 appearances for Fiorentina in the same competition. This suggests that Vlahovic is a superior striker to Correa and could, therefore, be a better option for Liverpool to sign this summer.

Liverpool have enquired about Correa and, based on the evidence provided above, they could be best off leaving it at that for now. Vlahovic has scored more goals and is five years younger than Correa, whilst being available for the same price, so could be a far more effective signing for the Reds than the Argentine forward. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool now pursue Vlahovic further or continue to consider Correa as a viable option.
