Liverpool have DODGED BULLET by steering clear of DISRUPTIVE Kylian Mbappe

Liverpool have started the season brilliantly under new head coach Arne Slot, currently sitting top of the Premier League.

The Reds made it back-to-back wins to start their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win over Bologna on Wednesday night and they also started their Carabao Cup defence with a 5-1 thrashing of West Ham.

Slot has done all of this without splashing the cash in the transfer market. Federico Chiesa was the only senior summer arrival at Anfield and he was signed for a cut-price fee. The Italian also hasn’t featured that much for the Reds yet due to limited fitness.

One of Liverpool’s most ambitious long-term targets, Kylian Mbappe, did move clubs this summer, but Liverpool weren’t in the running at the end and the 25-year-old now plays for Real Madrid.

Due to his incredible numbers, any team in world football would take Mbappe if finances weren’t a problem, but it looks like Liverpool could have potentially dodged a bullet by not signing the Frenchman.

Mbappe’s early season issues

Despite adding Mbappe to a team that already included the likes of Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr and Aurelien Tchouameni, Real Madrid have not had the start to the season they would have liked.

Los Blancos already sit three points behind Barcelona in La Liga and on Wednesday they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Lille in the Champions League.

Mbappe only played the final half an hour of the match, coming on for centre-back Eder Militao in the 57th minute, but the Frenchman wasn’t able to rescue anything from the match for his new team.

Mbappe’s goal return has still been impressive, with seven in his first 11 games, albeit three of those have been penalties. However, the forward played 90 minutes in disappointing draws away to Mallorca and Las Palmas without scoring or providing an assist and he has already picked up a minor injury that saw him miss out against fierce rivals Atletico Madrid.

The superstar will be on massive wages and Real Madrid fans will be looking to him to win the club points and trophies, something he has shown he is capable of before.

Liverpool’s impressive start

At Anfield there are no signs the Reds ever even needed the World Cup winner. Luis Diaz has revived his career under Slot and he has Cody Gakpo behind him who has also looked very impressive this campaign.

Already in his short time at Liverpool Slot has proven Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards right in that sometimes it is better not to make a signing than to make the wrong one.

Now that’s not to say that Mbappe wouldn’t be excelling in this Liverpool side, but his addition would look an odd one now seeing how the Reds have started the season.

Liverpool simply don’t need Mbappe at the moment, and Real Madrid supporters will be hoping to see an improvement in results soon with the Frenchman up front.
