Elliott saw a decrease in game time last season. His 28 appearances across all competitions - including six starts - totalled 822 minutes of action in which he weighed in with five goals and three assists.

This is down from 53 appearances across all competitions, totalling 2,786 minutes under Jurgen Klopp in the 2023/2024 campaign.

Ultimately, Elliott did suffer from missing the start of last season with a broken foot that sidelined him for about three months. In that period, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister became Arne Slot’s best midfield trio.

Already facing a tough battle to break into the team, his chances of first-team football next season could be further limited with Liverpool trying to sign attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds have already had multiple bids rejected for the Germany international, but latest reports claim they are set to make a final offer worth £118m, inclusive of add-ons, for the 22-year-old.

Elliott, meanwhile, insists he doesn’t want to leave the Premier League champions but accepts he may have to consider an exit to avoid wasting years in his career.

Speaking before England's under-21 European Championships gets underway, Elliott opened up on the prospect of leaving Liverpool this summer: "It's just a situation that me and the team have to have a conversation about because I'm coming into an age now where I'm 22, I'm going to be 23 next season.

"I don't really want to be wasting years on my career because it's a short career. You don't know what's going to happen.

"I need to reflect. I need to see if I'm content in doing what I'm doing and how can I improve as a player because that's the most important thing.

"I just want to improve and be the best possible version of myself. If that's to go somewhere else, then it's a decision that I'm going to have to make and I just need to see what happens.

"Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club, I love the fans, the team. I support them as well. But most importantly, it's just about what's best for my career."
