Liverpool unsure when Joel Matip will return from injury

Liverpool have been dealt a huge blow as they are unsure when Joel Matip will return from his injury.

The Cameroon defender missed our win over Tottenham at the weekend and suffered a knee problem against Sheffield.

The centre-back featured in the draw against Manchester United since, but the knee problem flared up at Old Trafford, according to the Liverpool Echo.

It was suggested that the defender would be out for six weeks, however, the Liverpool Echo claims that the Reds don’t know when the 28-year-old will be back.

Matip is yet to feature in training and needs rehab and physiotherapy before returning to the pitch.

Liverpool need to be careful at the back

Matip’s absence leaves us with just three senior centre-backs, and it was a good move to keep hold of Dejan Lovren in the summer.

The Croatian has looked decent alongside Virgil van Dijk but Matip has been in excellent form for a while.

Joe Gomez looks a little rusty this season and wasn’t great when he came on as a right-back in our win over Tottenham.

Liverpool need to be careful with their defenders and we cannot afford to lose more players due to lengthy injuries.

There are some big games coming up that Matip could miss, like the Manchester City and Napoli clashes.

Hopefully, the Cameroon star comes back soon and slots into the defence.
