The Reds head to the City Ground having been without 14 players for the midweek FA Cup win over Southampton, which saw young players step up to the plate once again.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed both Nunez and Szoboszlai could be in contention but he ruled out Mohamed Salah, who has missed the last three games due to a muscle issue.

“Darwin and Dom trained yesterday with the team, so very good, we have to wait how they react,” he told reporters.

On Salah, he stated: “I don’t think Mo is too far off but he will not feature tomorrow. Next week, at any point, it’s possible. He’s on the way back definitely.”

Andrew Robertson sat out the Southampton match due to an illness bug which also affected Alexis Mac Allister, although the Argentine was fit to appear off the bench at Anfield.

Both the Scot and Wataru Endo are due to train on Friday afternoon before Saturday’s match, with the Japanese midfielder having suffered a knock in the Carabao Cup triumph over Chelsea.

“Wataru and Robbo didn’t [train on Thursday] but that’s the plan, that they join in today,” said Klopp. “We have to see if that really works out.
