Liverpool hack defends Klopp’s bizarre conspiracy on referees and Manchester United

The constant bickering about officials this season, and every other season that has existed, is beyond tiresome. Can we all just grow up?

Yes, there are problems. You only need to look at Harry Maguire’s disallowed goal versus Burnley during the week. It should’ve been given but referee Kevin Friend overruled it.

According to Liverpool hack James Pearce, Jurgen Klopp isn’t happy with Premier League referees, and he can see why…

“Yes, no doubt. And I can understand why,” Pearce told The Athletic during a Q&A when asked if the Liverpool manager was angry with match officials.

“They are still getting so much wrong, even with the use of VAR. It’s the lack of consistency which is most galling. The penalty Mane didn’t get at Southampton was very similar to the one Pogba got a few days earlier.”

It bothers us that the Liverpool press have focused on this in the lead up to Sunday’s game, as though there’s a conspiracy that referees give United favoured treatment.

I even touched on it with an interview on Empire of the Kop this week, and the editor of that Liverpool blog admitted this was all very nauseating, as it’s a claim Klopp’s side has had to deal with in the past.

But the fact of the matter is, not everyone is going to agree with every decision, and sometimes VAR and the referee in question get it wrong.

It goes both ways. One week it could go against you, and another it might swing your way.

The Scousers are sounding very paranoid right now spreading this conspiracy rubbish about referees at United. So much that Mark Clattenburg called Klopp out for being a hypocrite in his Daily Mail column this week.

Give your head a wobble, Pearce.
