Liverpool star Luis Diaz has stepped up his recovery and the Anfield favourite should be back in contention ahead of the Premier League season’s resumption, according to injury expert Ben Dinnery.

The Merseyside giants have gone into the domestic break sitting sixth in the Premier League table and 15 points adrift of table-topping Arsenal, but boss Jurgen Klopp has been unable to call upon Diaz in recent months.

Liverpool injury news – Luis Diaz

According to South American journalist Pipe Sierra – via The Anfield Talk – Diaz has returned to Merseyside and, after completing his rehabilitation period, is expected to be part of the Liverpool squad which heads to a mid-season training camp in Dubai.

It emerged that the winger would be ruled out of action until after the World Cup thanks to sustaining a knee injury during the Reds’ Premier League defeat to Arsenal in October, as per The Athletic.

Diaz took to Twitter to show he has stepped up his recovery by posting two pictures of himself in the gym a matter of weeks after suffering the setback.

Football Insider have also suggested the 25-year-old is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation and is on course to make his comeback during the final stages of 2022.

Diaz’s knee problem has resulted in him missing Liverpool’s last 10 fixtures in all competitions, according to Transfermarkt.

What has Ben Dinnery said about Diaz?

Dinnery understands that Diaz will be a member of the Liverpool squad which heads to Dubai for warm weather training during the latter stages of the World Cup.

The injury news journalist is aware that the Reds are hopeful of the Colombian making a full recovery ahead of their Premier League season resuming at Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Dinnery told GIVEMESPORT: “With Diaz, it’s good news. He’s progressing as planned and he will be a part of the club’s tour of Dubai for some warm weather training.

“He will be training with the squad, so the intentions are fully that Diaz will be there for Liverpool once those Premier League fixtures kick-off again.

“That has gone relatively smoothly and, in terms of the timeline, we’re bang on schedule.”

Has Diaz been a big miss for Liverpool?

Although Liverpool have only lost two Premier League clashes in his absence, as per Transfermarkt, there is no doubt that Klopp is desperate to see Diaz return to action as soon as possible.

Diaz made the January switch from Porto in a deal which could end up being worth £49million, according to Sky Sports, and he has made a huge impact on the red half of Merseyside.

Transfermarkt statistics show the wide-man has scored 10 goals and registered a further eight assists in 38 appearances for Liverpool, emphasising his attacking threat.

Diaz has also been the Reds’ best performer in the Premier League, averaging a match rating of 7.28 this season according to WhoScored, so it is clear his return will be welcomed at Anfield.
