Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius is on his way back to Germany.

Karius is on the verge of a season-long loan move to Union Berlin, says the Liverpool Echo.

The German is expected to complete the formalities of the deal early next week to return to his homeland with the Bundesliga side.

Karius, 27, has endured a turbulent four years since joining Liverpool in summer 2016.

The move to Union Berlin represents a new start for a player who had been highly rated during his time with Mainz.

He has two years remaining on his contract at Anfield.
