Liverpool went fourth in the Barclays Women’s Super League with a victory at Bristol City that pushed the Robins to the verge of relegation.

An early scare for the basement side saw goalkeeper Shae Yanez’s attempted clearance hit Liverpool’s Sophie Roman Haug, before being cleared off the line.

But the hosts were behind on 13 minutes, when Marie Hobinger picked up a loose ball to fire home.

Haug had a goal ruled out for a foul on Yanez, for pushed a Hobinger strike onto the post, while Tegan Micah parried as Amalie Thestrup went close to an equaliser.

Meanwhile in the Barclays Women;s Championship, mid-table Blackburn Rovers consigned Watford to last place.

Meg Hornby celebrated her birthday with a decisive goal in the first half.
