Southampton reportedly ‘need to sell’ Romeo Lavia this summer given his value, and Liverpool are believed to be ‘leading the race’ to sign him.

The majority of the Premier League’s big names have been linked with Lavia. It’s not often a player shines so brightly on their first season of top-flight football that happens.

For Lavia, though, it’s clearly believed he has skills that would translate to any great side. That may be any of Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal.

There’s a very slim chance of it being Manchester City: they have a buyback clause, but it’s not active until 2024, by which point he’ll almost certainly have moved on from Southampton.

According to a new report, he’ll have to have. Indeed, Football Insider reports the Saints ‘will need to sell’ the midfielder this summer, as he’s ‘one of the most sellable assets’ they have.

If they want to rebuild after being relegated from the Premier League, getting a player with high value off the books will be a great way for them to begin doing so, as they’d be able to put that money to good use in their bid for promotion.

And the suggestion is that Liverpool could well be the beneficiaries of that sale. While Football Insider cites interest from Chelsea and Arsenal, it’s believed it’s Jurgen Klopp’s side who are ‘leading the race’ for Lavia.

It’s widely believed £50million will be the fee that will see the Belgian let go by Southampton. After a spend of £95million already this summer, Liverpool are seemingly waiting to see if some players depart before making an official bid.

While they apparently believe Lavia is overpriced at the fee Southampton want for him, it’s reported Fabinho is of interest to Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad, and they’d be willing to part with £40million in order to the snare the Brazilian.

That money would seemingly be put towards the signing of Lavia. While he’s not going to cost that exact price, Liverpool will surely feel that’s good business, given the age of Fabinho, and his dwindling performances last season.
