After completing the signing of the goalkeeper Joan Garcia, FC Barcelona are now seemingly focused on strengthening their attack by signing the Athletic Club forward Nico Williams, who has emerged as the preferred candidate for the Blaugranes in their bid to reinforce the left wing.
A few days ago, the Catalans had reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with the Spaniard. However, more recent reports suggested that negotiations between the club and the player’s agent, Felix Tainta, had stalled due to new demands from the player’s camp.
Those issues now appear to be resolved, and the Blaugranes are expected to trigger his release clause soon.
But in the context of stalled negotiations between the two parties, Barcelona were again being linked with Luis Diaz, the Liverpool winger who was reported to be the favorite candidate of the Blaugranes before Nico Williams took him over with a meeting between his agent and Deco.
In fact, Mundo Deportivo reports that the forward’s entourage had even sent some messages to the Spotify Camp Nou offices, reminding Barcelona that he is still available.
Before setting their focus on Nico, the Blaugrana club was hoping that Diaz would do his work to push Liverpool to agree to more reasonable terms for his departure. However, the forward’s agent did not push things as much as he was expected to, thus allowing Nico to take over his client in the Barcelona offices.
Recently, with negotiations stalled with the Spaniard, the Colombian star’s entourage reappeared, as the forward understood that he was the favorite in Deco’s initial planning. Meanwhile, the Catalans also understand that the player dreams of playing for their team.
On the other hand, Liverpool were still reluctant to part ways with their star forward. However, the fact that they have already spent a significant amount to strengthen their team with the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez, could have forced the Merseyside club to agree to a sale sooner or later.
The main handicap in the signing of Luis Diaz was his high price, and this operation could have been finalized only if his payment plan had been agreed upon with instalments. But for now, Nico Williams once again seems set to complete his move to Barcelona soon.
