This past summer saw Real Madrid rope in Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool in a deal worth €10 million – a meagre sum for a player of his quality and in his prime.
Real Madrid could have snared him away for free, for Trent’s contract at Anfield stood to expire on June 30. But the club’s need to have him play at the FIFA Club World Cup saw them pay the nominal compensation to bring forward his arrival.
Now, according to the Mirror, concerns are growing at Liverpool that another of their key player, Ibrahima Konate, could follow in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s footsteps and join Real Madrid when his contract expires.
The 26-year-old Frenchman has less than a year left on his contract with the Premier League champions and so far has shown no indication of wanting to extend it.
Real Madrid have had their eyes on him for some time now and intend to rope him on a Bosman deal when his contract runs out.

There were, in fact, rumours that the Merengues could move for the former RB Leipzig star in the current window itself, but that route appears to be closed for now.
Nevertheless, concerns are growing fast at Liverpool that Konate will leave as a free agent and join Real Madrid next year.
The fact that the defender’s form has been poor in the first few games of the new season has not helped matters, with the general feeling at Merseyside being that the player’s head has been turned by the speculations.
All these worries have led to Liverpool pushing for a late move in the window for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
As for Konate, the 26-year-old remains a target for Real Madrid for 2026. Only time will tell whether he continues to reject Liverpool’s advances for a renewal and make the switch.
