Here's our Liverpool FC news recap for Saturday, 2nd March 2024. The Reds secured a dramatic win over Nottingham Forest.

Where would Liverpool be without Darwin Nunez? The Uruguayan returned on Saturday as a substitute against Nottingham Forest and popped up to deliver a 98th-minute winner.

That was unquestionably the big story of the day - but it wasn't the only one. Alisson Becker has a 'serious' injury, says Jurgen Klopp, and may not be around for a while.

Here's our Liverpool FC news recap.

Liverpool leave it late

Everyone believed Liverpool had dropped points at Nottingham Forest - a fourth game in quick succession mid-injury crisis just looked like a step too far. But then the returning Darwin Nunez flicked home Alexis Mac Allister's cross for 1-0.

It couldn't have come any later - miss and the final whistle almost certainly went. But Nunez guided his header into the net, earning a valuable three points on a day where the Reds welcome backed a few senior players.

Klopp in awe of 'impossible' feat

Jurgen Klopp is in awe of his Liverpool side after they accomplished an 'impossible' feat. The Reds are absolutely thriving.

Liverpool beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Saturday thanks to a 98th-minute Darwin Nunez winner. The Uruguayan has a knack for that, it seems.

It continues an incredible run of form from Liverpool, who have won five on the bounce now. Four of those have come without a break, too, with the Brentford clash two weeks ago followed by a midweek game against Luton Town. Then came the Carabao Cup final the following Sunday, then the FA Cup vs Southampton three days after that.

And now Forest away - and another win. But simply saying they're all wins is understating it as Liverpool have had to do this during a surreal injury crisis.

The Reds have been without vital, first-name-on-the-teamsheet players throughout and really felt up against it in all four. Somehow, they've won them all - something Jurgen Klopp feels was 'impossible'.

"If you'd told me 12 days ago we would win all four games I would have said no chance, it was impossible," he told the BBC. "In the circumstances winning the games is ridiculous."

Forest owner chases referee

In the aftermath of Liverpool's dramatic, late win over Nottingham Forest, the owner of the East Midlands side, Evangelos Marinakis, reportedly had to be restrained by security personnel as he chased referee Paul Tierney down the tunnel following the Reds' late winner.

BBC Radio Five Live reporter Rob Schofield (as reported in the Mirror) described the chaotic scenes unfolding in the tunnel post-match. Marinakis, accompanied by Reid, pursued Tierney and fourth official Graham Scott, vehemently expressing their discontent and demanding respect for the players.

"You rarely see scenes like that in the tunnel," he said. "We saw Steven Reid getting frustrated. He and the Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis pursued referee Paul Tierney and fourth official Graham Scott all the way to referee's office yelling at them 'Respect the players! Respect the players! This happens every week! Respect the players!' "

Alisson Becker has suffered a 'serious' hamstring injury, Jurgen Klopp confirmed this week. The Liverpool goalkeeper will not play for the foreseeable future, though the boss says it shouldn't be season-ending.

"There is no real timescale on it, but it is a proper muscle injury," said Klopp. "Different players recover differently - that is it pretty much. It is not a short one.

"It is not that he will be in contention for next week or something like that. We have to wait a few more weeks, definitely, for him. He is working in the gym, not on the pitch, it is a rather serious one but not a season-ending injury."
