Liverpool fans made headlines for booing Prince William and the national anthem before their FA Cup triumph over Chelsea on Saturday.

The Duke of Cambridge, who is president of the Football Association, shook hands with the two sets of players before kick-off at Wembley.

However, when he was introduced by the stadium announcer, he was met with loud boos from the Liverpool fans.

Minutes later, the same supporters booed during the national anthem as well as the traditional ‘Abide With Me’.

The front page of the Daily Mail on Sunday ran with the headline: “Anger as Liverpool cup final fans boo William.”

If you want to learn more about why Liverpool boo the national anthem, this article from the Liverpool Echo goes some way to explain it.

On Monday, manager Jurgen Klopp was asked about the actions of Liverpool supporters to which he replied: “In this situation, it’s best to ask the question, why does it happen? I know our people that well, that they wouldn’t do it if there’s no reason for it.

“The majority of our supporters are wonderful people, really smart, go through lows, go through highs, suffer together. They wouldn’t do it if there would not be a reason, that’s what I know. Maybe we should ask this question.”

Check out his reaction to the question below:

While they were booing before the game, Liverpool fans were celebrating wildly a few hours later after beating Chelsea on penalties once again.

Just like in the Carabao Cup final in February, the two sides played out a 0-0 draw in 120 minutes before Liverpool held their nerve in the shootout.

It saw Liverpool lift the second trophy of the season as they still hold out hopes of winning an incredible quadruple.

Their attention will turn to Southampton on Tuesday and ensure the Premier League title race goes to the final day.

They then face Real Madrid in the Champions League final at the end of the month.
