Liverpool may have just lifted the Premier League trophy under Arne Slot’s inspired debut season, but there’s no room for complacency on Merseyside. According to a report from Give Me Sport, the Reds are already deep into planning their next phase of evolution, and the priority is crystal clear — signing a world-class striker to lead the line in 2025.
The standout name to emerge from Liverpool’s summer recruitment drive is Victor Osimhen. The Napoli talisman has reportedly been the subject of a “private meeting” within the club as Slot and new technical director Richard Hughes evaluate top-tier options.
As per Give Me Sport, Osimhen’s asking price is said to hover around £63 million, but the major obstacle isn’t the transfer fee, it’s his “wage demands,” described as a “significant stumbling block.” Yet intriguingly, the article adds that the player “may consider dropping his salary expectations if he wants to test himself at the top,” keeping the door firmly ajar for Liverpool.

Osimhen’s rejection of a move to Saudi Arabia reinforces his ambition to stay among Europe’s elite, making Liverpool’s recent domestic triumph and Champions League return all the more attractive. Still, with strong links to Galatasaray — where he netted a staggering 37 goals last season — there’s stiff competition to secure his signature.
Liverpool’s contingency planning doesn’t stop at Osimhen. As journalist Ben Jacobs shared via talkSPORT, “Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko and Joao Pedro are among the names considered” by Liverpool in their pursuit of a new frontman.
Among this quartet, Isak represents perhaps the most aspirational target. Newcastle are “adamant” he will not leave, especially with Champions League football returning to Tyneside. He remains under contract until 2028, further complicating any potential negotiations.
Meanwhile, Hugo Ekitike could be more attainable. Linked with Chelsea and previously targeted by Eintracht Frankfurt, he has also emerged as a serious Liverpool option. Joao Pedro’s standout season at Brighton has drawn attention from multiple clubs including Newcastle and Chelsea, but his versatility and Premier League experience make him a compelling alternative.
Sesko, currently at RB Leipzig, is reportedly on Arsenal’s radar, but Liverpool’s pulling power under Slot may yet tilt the scales in their favour.
Liverpool have already set the tone for their summer with a decisive approach in the transfer market. Jeremie Frimpong looks set to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold in a restructured backline, while Milos Kerkez appears close to a move that could bolster the left side of defence. A “record deal” for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz is also said to be nearing completion — a statement of intent if ever there was one.
Slot’s title-winning debut hasn’t slowed momentum — it’s accelerated it. The move for an elite No.9 is not a reaction to weakness but a proactive measure to maintain domestic supremacy and mount a serious continental charge.
From a Liverpool fan’s perspective, the Osimhen talk is thrilling but also riddled with caution. The Nigerian is a monster in the box, combining pace, power and a lethal eye for goal — the kind of striker who can take you from great to legendary. His 37 goals last season show he’s ready to dominate at the top level, and if he’s willing to trim wage demands, Anfield might be the ideal stage.
The departure or potential demotion of Darwin Nunez will sting for some supporters, but it’s hard to argue against upgrading if the right player is available. Nunez’s work rate and chaos factor have their place, but what Slot appears to want is efficiency, calm under pressure and end-product — all traits Osimhen has in abundance.
As for Alexander Isak, he’s a dream signing. But with Newcastle sitting on a mountain of oil-backed finances and no real pressure to sell, it’s probably a dead end. Ekitike and Pedro feel like high-upside gambles, whereas Sesko could be a star in the making. But if Liverpool are serious about a striker who instantly improves them, Osimhen remains the standout.
Credit where it’s due: Slot and Hughes are operating with clarity and ambition. Replacing Klopp was always going to be the challenge of a generation. Winning the title in season one? Incredible. But now the real test begins — building a dynasty. Landing a forward like Osimhen would be the next giant stride.
