Over recent years, Liverpool have become extremely efficient at securing the top academy talent from across the country. That includes moves that have seen the likes of Harvey Elliott, Ben Doak and Trey Nyoni all burst onto the scene at Anfield.
Manchester City youngster Lucas Clarke joined that list of players recently, by confirming his switch to Merseyside.
According to recent reports, the Reds could repeat this trick once again as they set their sights on 17-year-old Sunderland forward Trey Ogunsuyi. The Black Cats themselves have became one of the most promising youth setups in England over the past few years, so a deal could go hand-in-hand.

Ogunsuyi is a Belgium Under-19 international and has become one of the most promising attackers in youth football at the moment. The 6’2″ forward has become somewhat of a goalscoring machine for Sunderland’s Under-21 side, with 14 goals to his name already this season.
The youngster has also impressed against notable opposition too, scoring twice against Manchester United’s Under-21’s, as well as getting goals against Manchester City’s Under-21’s and Liverpool’s Under-18 side. Ogunsuyi has also netted against senior sides Tamworth and Gateshead.
His impressive form has already earned him inclusions in Regis Le Bris’ first-team squads, only highlighting his potential even further.
Sunderland’s Under-21 head coach recently spoke about the promising forward, saying: “He looks a real threat and he looks like he’s going to score and I think that he’s showing lots of good signs.”

The young Belgian forward is certainly heading in the right direction and certainly looks to have great potential behind him. I’ve been able to watch him on a couple of occasions and have always been impressed by him, whether that be his eye for goal or his incredible physicality despite his very young age.
It would be quite easy to compare him to Jayden Danns, who is Liverpool’s most notable academy forward and is set for a return from injury very soon. Similarly to Danns, Ogunsuyi’s start at Sunderland was reasonably slow, before bursting onto the scene in his second season.
It would be some task to replicate Danns’ growth, with the youngster now regularly part of the first-team plans, but Liverpool will certainly be hoping to have another wonderkid on their hands. According to the reports, interest is firm so it will be interesting to see whether this move materialises.
