Liverpool are in the race to sign Nice’s in-form forward Amine Gouiri. The 21-year-old attacker moved to Nice from Lyon in the summer of 2020, and racked up 16 goals in his debut season.

As per Fichajes, Reds manager Jürgen Klopp has requested the Liverpool board to sign Gouiri. The German is reportedly a fan of the French attacker, and sees him as an ideal replacement for Roberto Firmino.

Gouiri’s current deal with the club expires in 2024, having signed a four-year deal when he joined them last season. He has already scored four times in four league games this season for Nice.

Amine Gouiri to Liverpool – A smart option for Jürgen Klopp?

Amine Gouiri had a terrific first season at Nice, scoring 16 goals and 8 assists in all competitions. The youngster was used as a backup player at Lyon. But, he took the opportunities he was afforded at Nice with both hands and was the most consistent attacker in the team.

Gouiri is an attacker that has loads of flair, capable of driving at defences with his pace and dribbling. The Frenchman is a good finisher in and around the box, and averaged 2.4 shots on goal in the league last season. He is a clever player who makes smart runs in the penalty box to move away from the opposing defenders, while also making space for his fellow attackers.

The 21-year-old was used in two roles at Nice last season – on the left, where he used his pace and dribbling to drive centrally; and centrally, as the main striker in the Nice team. This season, Nice have played a 4-4-2 formation where Gouiri has played as one of the two strikers.

The French star has exploded onto the scene in Ligue 1 and has shown that he has the talent to make it big in Europe. He could be a fantastic addition to the Liverpool team and would fit in well in their system. Gouiri’s versatility of playing in two of the three attacking roles in the Liverpool team, his speed and dribbling ability, and his work rate make him a good addition to the Liverpool side.

The Reds need another striker to perhaps replace or put pressure on Roberto Firmino, who hasn’t been very good over the last 18 months. Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are good options in the wide areas, but they are not natural centre forwards. Klopp needs greater depth in the attacking areas and a player like Gouiri is desperately needed at the club.
