Liverpool have made what was described on The Transfer Show podcast as “an active play” to sign Rodrygo, with the Brazilian forward emerging as a key attacking target for the summer.
Dave Davis, speaking with Trev Downey on Anfield Index, stated firmly: “Liverpool are making an active attempt to try and get this player… Not only that, they spoke to the agent already.”
This isn’t the first time Rodrygo’s name has surfaced around Anfield, but this time, there’s a more deliberate and structured effort underway. Davis continued: “Rodrygo is a massive family guy… Liverpool have already invited them. They are rolling out the red carpet.”
The message is clear: Liverpool see Rodrygo as a major opportunity and are doing everything possible to create the right conditions for a move.
Rodrygo’s potential availability has been fuelled by his current standing at Real Madrid. “He was left out the El Clásico… he left training as well,” Davis reported. “All of a sudden… Ancelotti says, ‘Oh he had a bit of discomfort in his leg. He’s had a fever.’”
But not everyone’s buying the explanation. “Spanish sources have reported he was in training,” Davis added. “Real Madrid have open access and it’s videoed.” The implication: things might not be as simple as Ancelotti suggests.
Rodrygo’s discontent appears real, and Davis pointed to growing unrest: “He refused to play… not happy… wants to get out.” If correct, it’s a significant shift in the dynamic and opens the door for other top clubs.
Liverpool’s interest in Rodrygo isn’t isolated. The club is targeting what Davis referred to as “tier one attackers”—a departure from their traditionally cautious approach. “This summer… Liverpool are going for tier one attackers,” he confirmed. “It’s not normally the way we seem to do this at all.”
Rodrygo fits the profile. “24, won it all, Brazilian international… skills… let’s be honest he’s hurt us in the Champions League before as well,” Davis said. The reference to Liverpool’s past battles with Rodrygo only adds to the allure.
While competition is expected, the groundwork is being laid. Davis hinted at strong mutual interest: “Rodrygo… they are rolling out the red carpet for this.”
Rodrygo’s versatility and pedigree make him a valuable option for a Liverpool side looking to refresh its forward line under Arne Slot. Although the podcast didn’t explore tactical details in depth, Davis was emphatic about the calibre of player being pursued.
“This is a sexy player,” he said. “It is funny this summer… Liverpool are trying for tier one attackers.”
Importantly, the podcast did not frame Rodrygo as a sole solution or the only target in mind. “It’s not necessarily that we think it’s him or Alvarez,” Trev Downey clarified. Rather, Rodrygo is part of a broader plan to inject world-class quality into the front line.
While no deal is confirmed, The Transfer Show made clear that Liverpool’s pursuit of Rodrygo is genuine and advanced. “Had it stood up, as you know Trev… our best source really checked on this—had it stood up,” Davis stressed.
This isn’t speculation for speculation’s sake. Liverpool are doing the groundwork and have spoken with the player’s representatives. “Liverpool are making an active attempt,” Davis reiterated.
Whether that leads to a move will depend on Real Madrid’s internal politics, Rodrygo’s desire to leave, and Liverpool’s willingness to push hard. But the effort is real, and for now, Rodrygo to Liverpool is a story worth taking seriously.
