Liverpool fans have reason for optimism ahead of this weekend’s clash with West Ham, as manager Arne Slot confirmed key figures Alisson Becker and Conor Bradley are both in contention to return to the starting line-up.
After a period plagued by injuries and uncharacteristic defensive lapses, the return of two players who have defined discipline and consistency in their respective roles could not come at a better time.
Alisson Becker has been sidelined for Liverpool’s past two outings, following a collision while on international duty with Brazil last month. Having gone through the required concussion protocols, the goalkeeper is now deemed fit and ready for selection.
“Yes, he is,” Slot confirmed during Friday’s press conference, when asked if the Brazilian shot-stopper was fully recovered.

The absence of Alisson was keenly felt. While Caoimhín Kelleher has proven a competent deputy, Liverpool’s back line operates with a different rhythm and assurance when Alisson is marshalling from the rear. His return comes as Liverpool continue their hunt for Champions League qualification, where defensive solidity will be crucial in the season’s final stretch.
Alisson’s leadership, command of his box and sweeping ability are not simply added bonuses—they are essential traits in how Liverpool build from the back and navigate high-pressing opponents like West Ham.
On the other side of the pitch, Liverpool are also likely to welcome back Conor Bradley into the starting XI. The young full-back made his first appearance in nearly two months as a substitute during the 3-2 defeat to Fulham last week. With a full week of training under his belt, Slot suggested Bradley is ready to reclaim his spot.
“Yes, it does,” Slot said, when asked whether Bradley was in contention to start. “Of course it’s a boost, it’s always a boost when quality players come back. Especially quality players in that position.”
Slot’s remarks hinted not just at Bradley’s fitness but at the larger tactical picture. “I think Curtis Jones is a quality player but it’s not his favourite position,” he explained. “So to have a player in his favourite position is always – not always – but might be better for the team.”

Bradley has impressed throughout the campaign, showcasing not only defensive reliability but also a maturity in decision-making and positional awareness far beyond his age. His ability to slot seamlessly into Liverpool’s high-tempo transitional system makes him a key asset, particularly when Trent Alexander-Arnold is unavailable.
“When Trent then isn’t there, you always hope to look behind you and see that Conor is available,” Slot added. “But then if he isn’t, we have to solve that problem.”
Injuries have tested Liverpool’s depth all season, and Slot has made it clear that adaptability within the squad has been vital. “We are not the only team in this league that has had these problems. We’ve tried to bring the best out of it,” he said, referencing the performances of makeshift full-backs like Jones.
“That worked really well against Everton. I think Curtis played well also against Fulham. Of course he was involved in the goal but you can ask yourself the question if he could do so much about that.”

Slot’s pragmatism is evident, yet his words also underline the reality: when the specialists return, they play. “Now to have Conor back, I think we all would make the same decision and that’s playing Conor in that position.”
With Alisson Becker back between the sticks and Conor Bradley set to re-establish himself at right-back, Liverpool are poised to reassert themselves. While Slot has handled adversity with composure and tactical flexibility, the return of key personnel brings the kind of clarity any manager craves in the business end of the season.
Liverpool’s trip to West Ham offers a chance to right the wrongs of the Fulham loss and keep pressure on the top four. With Alisson’s calming presence and Bradley’s energy down the flank, the Reds may just have the tools they need to secure a crucial three points.
