Liverpool’s hopes of an unprecedented quadruple fell short down the final stretch of the 2021/22 season.

A double domestic cup success barely compensated for a Champions League heartbreak and Manchester City’s narrow Premier League triumph.

Pep Guardiola’s side defeated the Reds to the top-flight crown by the skin of their teeth, leaving the Anfield faithful on the edge of despair.

But Jurgen Klopp hopes to use frustration as an incentive to overhaul his squad in the summer and reinforce Liverpool’s push for glory in 2022/23.

As such, last season’s Premier League runners-up have already undergone massive changes in the early stage of the summer.

However, according to The Athletic, Liverpool are done signing new players this summer.

Those claims come in spite of Klopp’s rumoured pursuit of a new creative midfielder.

Let’s take a look at Liverpool’s summer transfer window.

Arrivals

After a failed attempt to sign Fabio Carvalho from Fulham in the final days of the January transfer window, Liverpool picked up where they left off this summer.

The Portuguese whizz-kid will team up with Klopp’s side on July 1 after the Merseyside outfit agreed to pay £5 million in compensation fee to take him away from Craven Cottage.

Unlike Manchester United and other Darwin Nunez’s suitors, Liverpool have wasted no time trying to find an agreement with Benfica.

The Reds have won the race for the Uruguyan’s signature, though it cost them a staggering £85m, including add-ons, to get the deal over the line.

Departures

After playing a pivotal role in re-establishing Liverpool as a force to be reckoned with in England and Europe, Sadio Mane decided to call time on his Anfield career.

Six years after signing for the Reds from Southampton, the Senegal international departed for perennial Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in a deal worth £35.1m.

Takumi Minamino has completed his £15.5m to Monaco, while Divock Origi is on the cusp of joining AC Milan as a free agent.

It means Liverpool’s attacking department has changed its identity ahead of the new season.

What’s next?

Mohamed Salah’s extension talks remain gridlocked, but Klopp hopes to persuade his headline star to pledge his future to Anfield.

Liverpool have no intention of letting the Egyptian scoring machine accompany Mane through the exit door.

The 30-year-old has been the architect of the Reds’ renaissance under Klopp, growing into one of the most influential figures at the club.

His scoring prowess has been off the charts and the Merseysiders are keen to reward him with a new contract.

Unfortunately, negotiations over Salah’s renewal are not progressing as expected, casting doubt on his future at Anfield.

What if Salah leaves?

Liverpool fans have yet to get over Mane’s departure.

However, watching Salah march through the exit gate is arguably the worst nightmare of any Reds supporter.

Considering the Egyptian’s contractual situation, that prospect is not as far-fetched as it may appear at first glance.

Real Madrid are Salah’s long-term admirers but have never tried to concretise their interest.

That could change over the summer unless Liverpool tie their superstar down to a new deal soon.

Salah’s potential departure would force Klopp to dive back into the market to find his replacement.

Yet, nothing less than a mammoth offer will take to lure the former Chelsea flop away from Anfield.

Who could fill the void?

Wantaway Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele has yet to make a final decision on his future.

Renewal talks with the Camp Nou side have hit a brick wall, with Chelsea lurking in the shadows.

Thomas Tuchel’s men have already established contacts with Dembele’s representatives to discuss the player’s move to Stamford Bridge.

But Liverpool could hijack Chelsea’s plans if their hand was forced by Salah’s potential move away.

Dembele went from strength to strength under new Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez last season.

However, he has been reluctant to commit to lower terms at Camp Nou, inviting foreign suitors to ply their cases.

Although Liverpool have never made an official approach to sign the ex-Borussia Dortmund star, things could change over the summer.
