FIFA released the nominees for The Best FIFA Football Awards 2020 on 25th November, and Liverpool have featured heavily on the list.
‘The Best FIFA Football Awards’ is handed out by FIFA annually since 2016 to the best performing players and coaches in the world, and is considered one of the highest awards in football alongside the Ballon d’Or.
The Ballon d’Or was canceled this year by France Football due to the football season being disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. In its absence, The Best FIFA Football Awards has assumed heightened importance this year.
4 Liverpool players feature on the list of The Best FIFA Men’s Player after a historic Premier League season. Thiago Alacantara won the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich last season but joined the Reds this summer.
Liverpool’s Alisson Becker features on the list of The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper, alongside other world-class goalkeepers. The Brazilian had won the award last year and is nominated for the 2nd time.
Liverpool coach, the winner of the award in 2019, is nominated again for The Best FIFA Men’s Coach this year after a historic year with the Reds.
The public voting for the awards is open on FIFA.com and will be open until 9 December 2020.
FIFA will announce the three finalists in each of the seven categories on 11 December 2020.
The full voting and award process is explained in the rules of allocation. (h/t FIFA)
