Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez had fans talking with his goal celebration after scoring the equaliser against Arsenal on Sunday.

The much-maligned Uruguayan striker equalised with 10 minutes of the first half remaining, sticking out a leg to steer Luis Diaz’s cross past Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal had taken a first-minute lead through Gabriel Martinelli, but Nunez’s goal put Jurgen Klopp’s side back on level terms. Bukayo Saka then put Arsenal 2-1 up on the stroke of half-time.

After scoring his goal, Nunez ran off celebrating in front of the Arsenal fans behind the goal, pretending to cry in the process.

What else happened during the first half of Arsenal vs Liverpool?

Earlier in the first half, football fans on social media were left scratching their heads when Liverpool’s penalty appeals were turned down after Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes stopped Diogo Jota’s cross with his hand.

Many expected referee Michael Oliver to award a penalty, but play was allowed to resume as Gabriel’s handball went unpunished.

You can certainly understand why many people are baffled by the decision.

Martinelli scored inside the first minute

Eleven points and eight places separated the two Premier League sides at the start of the afternoon. It’s been a long time since Arsenal went into this fixture as favourites but Mikel Arteta has brought back the feel-good factor to the Emirates Stadium this season.

Martinelli got the Gunners off to a dream start, putting the home side ahead inside the opening minute after being played through on goal by Martin Odegaard.

Trent Alexander-Arnold appealed for offside but the goal was allowed to stand following a VAR review.

Nunez equalised but Saka put the hosts 2-1 up on the stroke of half-time.
