Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly ‘courting’ Belgium international Jeremy Doku, who is valued at around €40m by Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.

The winger has been heavily linked with a potential move to Liverpool in recent years. Towards the end of 2022, it was claimed that they will ‘return’ for Doku as Jurgen Klopp has ‘never stopped thinking about him’.

The 21-year-old has gained admirers after impressing for Belgium at international level. For Rennes last season, he grabbed seven goals and four assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool are well-covered in attacking areas with Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Luiz Diaz and Diogo Jota to choose from, but they are reportedly still interested in Doku.

French outlet L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) are reporting that the forward remains in ‘Liverpool’s sights’.

He is still an ‘attractive’ transfer option for clubs around Europe as he is considered to be ‘one of the best dribbles’ in the world.

His future at Rennes is ‘not assured’ and journalist Ekrem Konur is reporting that the Ligue 1 team ‘want 40 million euros’ for him and he’s ‘wanted by Premier League clubs’.

It is difficult to see Liverpool pursuing a move to Doku at this stage as their priority is to sign one or two more midfielders and a centre-back this summer.

Liverpool have already paid £35m to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and they are now being linked with Nice’s Khephren Thuram and Wolfburg’s Micky van de Ven.

Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is another possible addition following their relegation from the Premier League. Earlier this week, it was reported that Liverpool have ‘opened talks’ for the midfielder, who is also being targeted by Arsenal and Chelsea.

Football Transfers are now reporting that ‘Chelsea and Liverpool have overtaken Arsenal in the race to sign Lavia’. They add.

‘Arsenal had been favourites to buy the Belgian midfielder this summer, with the Gunners and manager Mikel Arteta huge admirers of the 19-year-old. Arteta saw Lavia as the ideal replacement for Thomas Partey, should the former Atletico Madrid midfielder leave the club ahead of next season. ‘The north London side have already held talks over signing Lavia and were believed to be well positioned to buy the player who is valued at around £40 million. ‘However, Football Transfers has learned that Arsenal now risk losing out on Lavia to Liverpool or Chelsea. The reason for this is because of the time it is taking to complete the signing of Declan Rice and the sale of Partey.’
