According to Mirror, Liverpool could reportedly lure Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina after impressive showings from the Moroccan midfielder as his nation defeat Belgium securing a place in the knockouts at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Reds are looking to add to their midfield department and the January transfer market could open up a lot of options for them.

Amrabat’s Impressive Numbers In The World Cup So Far

The defensive midfielder has been a guaranteed starter for Morocco in the group stages as he produced a few influential displays at the centre of the park. Amrabat has played exceptionally in the holding positions at the midfield after averaging 2.0 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 1.7 clearances for his side over three matches.

He hasn’t been productive for Fiorentina in the final third but has proved his worth playing exceptionally for the African nation. The 26-year-old has been exceptional with his ball distribution after completing 90.8% of his attempted passes for the Italian outfit and has similarly averaged 88.7% in pass completion for his nation (stats via Whoscored).

Should Liverpool Lure Him To Anfield?

Amrabat has the vision to supply long balls and he has the ability to recover possession quickly in the middle of the park.

The Moroccan sensation drops in deep and maintains the backline allowing the centrebacks to move wider. This also creates the opportunity for the wingbacks and wingers to press forward. His ability to play off the ground and accurate supply of long balls allow him to find open teammates out wide. Amrabat’s high work rate and immense physicality allow him to last throughout the game covering the maximum possible ground area.

The Reds have an aggressive playstyle pressing up high and using counterpressure to win back the ball as soon as possible. Amrabat could fit in the squad comfortably with his attributes and could do well to shield the backline. He currently earns £1.56 million per year in wages at the Italian club and coming to Anfield could substantially increase his income. Jurgen Klopp has several midfield targets lined up for the January transfer market and Amrabat would be a brilliant addition considering an inexpensive transfer.
