Liverpool Sales Near £200m Amid Squad Overhaul

Slot’s side close in on £216m summer spending spree

Liverpool’s transfer activity is showing no signs of slowing, with the club edging past the £200 million mark as they continue to reshape Arne Slot’s Premier League-winning squad. While several high-profile arrivals have already been confirmed, the focus is now shifting to departures, with as many as ten senior players potentially set to leave Anfield before the window closes.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to link up with the Reds this summer after a £29 million agreement with Valencia was finalised last year. The Georgian goalkeeper is one of several significant additions, headlined by the record-breaking £116 million move for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Further reinforcements have come in the form of Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5m) and young Hungarian Armin Pecsi (£1.5m), while a £40 million deal for Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth is now close to completion. Once Kerkez is confirmed, Liverpool’s total outlay – including add-ons – will rise to around £216 million.

With heavy investment comes the need to balance the books and streamline the squad. That process is already under way, and defender Jarell Quansah appears to be next in line to depart. The 21-year-old centre-back is nearing a £35 million transfer to Bayer Leverkusen, which would free up one of the coveted over-21 squad places.

Liverpool are restricted to naming 25 senior players in their Premier League squad – those aged 21 or older – and with the additions of Wirtz and Kerkez, that total is set to reach 35. Once Quansah’s move is finalised, the number will drop to 34, but further exits will be required to bring that figure in line with league regulations.

Ten outgoings anticipated to balance squad and finances

Several members of Slot’s squad have been linked with moves away, and some have openly discussed their uncertain futures. According to Theo Squires in The Echo, Federico Chiesa has hinted at a return to Italy, while Harvey Elliott recently admitted he may need to consider his options amid growing competition for places. Wataru Endo, on the other hand, has expressed his desire to remain at Anfield.

Despite this, exits appear inevitable. Liverpool have already offloaded Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher in deals worth a combined £28 million. With interest mounting in other squad players, the club could raise considerable funds from further sales, helping offset their ambitious recruitment drive.

Attack and defence still on the agenda

While much of the focus is now on departures, Liverpool are not ruling out further signings. A new centre-forward remains on the wishlist, and additional defensive or attacking options could be explored depending on who leaves. Slot is keen to ensure he enters the new campaign with a balanced, competitive squad, and the recruitment team are prepared to act swiftly should opportunities arise.
