Liverpool have reignited their interest in sought-after Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes.

As per Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are considering adding several new pieces to their midfield jigsaw in the summer as they prepare to cut ties with Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Having flopped at Anfield since moving in from RB Leipzig in 2018, Keita will bid farewell to the Merseyside outfit when his contract expires in the summer.

Soon-to-be-former Serie A champions AC Milan have set their sights on the 28-year-old, with his ex-employers Leipzig also in the mix.

As for Oxlade-Chamberlain, Liverpool have no intention of extending his expiring contract after the player’s recurring injury problems over the past few years.

Jurgen Klopp will have to address the imminent shortage of numbers in the engine room when the transfer window opens for business in the summer.

The Reds have already laid their eyes on Chelsea star Mason Mount, who could depart Stamford Bridge at the end of the season unless his contractual wobble was taken care of by then.

However, Liverpool will have to defeat stiff competition to capture the Englishman’s services, and it’s still uncertain whether the 24-year-old would swap west London for Anfield.

It seems they’ve already found a fallback option in Nunes.

Although Wolves face uncertain times in the Premier League, the 24-year-old has been nothing short of impressive.

Since joining the Molineux outfit from Sporting Lisbon last summer, the versatile Portuguese midfielder has been one of the rare bright spots in the west Midlands.

Despite still waiting for his first Premier League goal, Nunes’ outstanding overall performances have placed him on Liverpool’s radar again.

The Reds were interested in his services during his time at Sporting, but Wolves won the race, taking him to Molineux for €45 million.

Given his successful maiden Premier League season, it will likely take much more to lure him away.
