Liverpool could sell off the naming rights of their new £50m Kirkby training centre.

The Reds will begin the expansion of their current Academy site into a new state-of-the-art training facility in October with the project scheduled for completion in the summer of 2020.

Manchester United currently earn £15m-per-year from the sponsorship of their training ground by American insurance company Aon and Liverpool are reportedly hoping to strike a similar deal when it comes to theirs.

“The new training ground is a different opportunity,” the club’s managing director Billy Hogan told the Liverpool Echo.

“It’s not just the first team, it’s the Academy as well. So what’s the right partner for a training ground?

“For the right partner, if it makes sense, then that’s something we’ll certainly look at.

“There are wider opportunities around the new training ground which we’ll look at. If it’s not a headline naming rights then more subtle relationships could make more sense within a training ground environment.”

Liverpool held talks with a number of potential partners regarding the naming rights for Anfield’s Main Stand before it was reopened in 2016, but ultimately decided not to proceed.

“In terms of why it hasn’t happened, we just haven’t found the right partner for the Main Stand,” Hogan added.

“One of the challenges within the partnerships business is finding the right elements of a partnership that makes sense for both sides.

“In terms of a priority standpoint going forward, it’s not a top of the list priority but it remains an opportunity.

“If there is a partner we feel makes sense it would certainly be something we’d look to bring to a relationship.

“It just hasn’t worked out from a timing standpoint yet but there are a number of lounges within the Main Stand which have naming partners so it has helped to drive the partnerships business.”
