Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion on a long-term deal until 2028.

In an interview with Liverpoolfc.com, the World Cup winner and Liverpool’s new number 10 stated “It feels amazing. It’s a dream come true, it’s amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started.”

According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal was completed after The Reds triggered the release clause in the midfielders contract allowing them to sign him for a fee of £35m from Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

The Argentine has been linked with a move to Merseyside for several months now, however the expectation was that The Seagulls would demand a larger fee than his €42m Transfermarkt valuation- thus indicating that Jürgen Klopp’s side have landed a good deal.

Albion will make a significant profit on the sale, having signed the 24-year-old from Argentinos Juniors for a fee of around €8m in January 2019, before he was immediately loaned back to his boyhood club and then sent out to spend a whole season on loan at Boca Juniors. However, following an impressive spell for the 6-time Copa Libertadores champions, Mac Allister was recalled to the South Coast side after just six months by then-head coach Graham Potter.

Since his arrival at the Amex Stadium, the 16-time capped Argentina international has developed significantly, with his performances this season in particular catching the eye of many, where he’s racked up 10 goals and two assists in 35 Premier League appearances for a history-making Brighton side, as well as featuring six times in Qatar as he helped guide his nation to their first World Cup since 1986.

Klopp and new Sporting Director Jörg Schmadtke will now focus on further strengthening their side as they look to bounce back from their disappointing fifth place finish this season, with OGC Nice’s talented 22-year-old Khépheren Thuram currently being linked with a move to Anfield.
