As confirmed by the club’s official website, Ibrahima Konate, who signed for Liverpool this summer, will be wearing the #5 jersey in his debut season at Anfield.

Konate has signed a five-year contract with the Merseyside giants and will get the first taste of being a Liverpool player next week when pre-season training begins at Kirkby.

On Wednesday, Konate had dropped a hint over his kit number for the next season in a video, seemingly shot in France, in which he is seen pulling out a Liverpool jersey with #5 emblazoned on the back, as fans surround and cheer him. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

On Thursday morning, the club officially confirmed that Konate, indeed, will be donning the No. 5 kit this season, while launching the away kit for the 2021/22 campaign.

The No.5 jersey has previously been worn by Milan Baros, Daniel Agger and most recently Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutchman adorned the #5 kit throughout his five-year stint with Liverpool after joining from Newcastle United in 2016.

However, with him departing to PSG this summer, the number had become available and has been passed on to Konate.
