Liverpool worried Naby Keita injury could be worse than initially feared

According to Mirror (h/t Express), Liverpool are growing worried as the injury to midfielder Naby Keita may be worse than initially feared.

Jurgen Klopp has been cautious to rotate his squad for the different tournaments this season. The German manager had to face some grave injury issues last season which forced him to play without his core players for a major chunk of the campaign.

Liverpool had a comfortable match in their latest Carabao Cup tie against Norwich. They were 3-0 victors at Carrow Road. The only downside for the Reds was that Naby Keita had to be taken early in the first half due to injury.

Klopp had reassured the fans that the injury wasn’t too serious but according to fresh reports, it may be worse than they originally feared. The Guinean has failed to nail down a regular starting place in the team since his arrival. This is mostly due to his grave history of injuries.

The 26-year-old midfielder hit the ground in an attempt to make a pass early on in the game. He then had to be replaced by teenager Tyler Morton who also made his senior debut with the club.

Other injury woes this season

Klopp has insisted on rotation to prevent a repeat of last season’s injury issues. Despite these precautions, some of his players have had to fight fitness issues.

Thiago Alcantara is also sidelined for the next game due to an injury. The Spaniard has also faced several injury woes since his arrival at Anfield. The horror injury in a 2-2 draw against Everton last season kept the midfielder out of contention for a long period.

Roberto Firmino has returned to training after picking up a hamstring injury early on in the season. The Brazilian striker is another player who would want to make his impact on the club felt.

Harvey Elliot by far had to suffer the worst injury out of the lot. The teenager was on the receiving end of a freakish tackle that has put him out of contention for the rest of the season. The youngster was developing well and slowly making his way to the first-team environment. The Premier League fixture against Leeds could be his last match of this campaign.

Trent Alexander Arnold had to miss out a few matches but is back in contention. The young right-back has cemented his place as one of the best in the world and is an integral part of Liverpool’s defence.

Liverpool still remain unbeaten this campaign. They have successfully navigated through the ups and downs until now. Klopp would be looking to protect his players as the season progress. Thus Keita’s injury could be a big blow to the Reds with a hectic schedule on the cards.
