Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has announced he was blocked from signing a centre-half this month.

Klopp laid bare the dynamics behind the club's lack of transfer activity, despite the desperate need to cover long term injury to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

While there is obvious tension in the situation - with even a top-four finish now on the line - Klopp declared: “I am not a five-year-old kid any more and if I don't get what I want I start crying.

“Most of the time in my life I didn't get what I wanted, so pretty much used to that. We talk about a centre-half, and yes, it would help 100 percent.

“We discuss the situation pretty much on a daily basis, and I make recommendations.

“But I cannot spend the money. I don't make these decisions. There are people who are responsible for the whole thing, and I cannot make their decisions."

He added: "We have improve with this squad - that's my job, not sitting here and being disappointed or frustrated with some decisions. I think that would be read as an excuse and we don't need that.

“It's not a situation you want, but it's a situation. And if you aren't happy with a situation then work. That's what we do. We believe 100% we can change that with this squad."
