Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a fan of Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford, but the Englishman has reportedly signed an extension to his current deal. Bamford has been with the club since 2018, having joined from Middlesbrough for around £7 million.

As per The Athletic, Leeds United striker, Patrick Bamford has secretly extended his contract with the Whites and his current deal at the club will see him stay on after 2022. Bamford was originally on a four-year deal with the club when he signed for them in 2018, which would’ve expired next year. But, his new deal means that Leeds will not lose him on a free transfer next summer.

Patrick Bamford is Leeds’ top-scorer in the current season as the former Chelsea player has scored 15 goals for the club in all competitions.

Patrick Bamford: Would he be a good signing for them?

Liverpool have had a tough title defence as an injury-ravaged season has kept them far away from champions Manchester City. The Reds have had to play without key defensive personnel for the majority of the season and are now scrambling to make the top four.

But, manager Jurgen Klopp will know that there are problems up front as well. Star winger Mohamed Salah has been the only consistent goalscorer in the current season as the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have failed to light up the Premier League. Firmino has been the most disappointing attacker for the Reds this season as the Brazilian has racked up just eight goals in the current season while also disappointing in the other facets of his game.

Divock Origi has hardly been played this season and he could see the exit door in the summer. Klopp has to bring in a replacement for him, a striker who can push Firmino to perform better and give the German manager an alternative when things are not going right. Patrick Bamford could be a useful backup player in the Reds squad. The Englishman has shown that he can score consistently at the top level as he has racked up 15 goals in the league this season – six less than the leading scorer for the season, Mohamed Salah.

Patrick Bamford has vast experience of playing in the English league and is a hard-working player who presses high up the pitch, shows great determination to win the ball, and can also be deadly in and around the box. The 27-year-old is the kind of attacker that Klopp likes as he plays for the team rather than himself. With Liverpool needing reinforcements at the back, the Reds may not have funds to sign a world-class forward, which means that they will have to settle for a competent player like Patrick Bamford who will provide another dimension to their attacking play.
