In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera. It has been stated that the Reds are eyeing a move to bring the Spanish centre-back to Merseyside this summer.

Mosquera’s Impressive Form In La Liga

Mosquera enjoyed a solid campaign at the Spanish club after he put in a string of impressive performances at the heart of their backline in the previous campaign. The 20-year-old made 41 appearances for Valencia last season, scoring one goal on all fronts.

The Spanish talent was a rock at the back as he made 56 tackles, 37 blocks and 35 interceptions in La Liga. He was even accurate when distributing possession from inside his half based on his pass completion rate of 90.5% in the Spanish first division (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at Valencia will run out next summer which could open the door for the Reds to land him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Should Liverpool Boss Arne Slot Get Mosquera On Board?

Mosquera is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive.

Standing at 1.91m, the Spanish talent can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. He is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. However, Mosquera might need some time to adjust to the high intensity of the Premier League if the Reds manage to snap him up this summer.

We can expect him to add more quality to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s backline in the long run. At 20, Mosquera has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, the Reds would be wise to go all out to get him on board in this summer transfer period.

Mosquera is already good enough to push for regular first-team football at the Merseyside club. Furthermore, he could even help Liverpool compete for a lot of major trophies over the next decade. Thus, Slot should focus on recruiting him soon but only if he can get him for a reasonable fee.
