Speaking on a recent edition of The Athletic FC Podcast, renowned journalist David Ornstein claimed that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak this summer. Ornstein said,
“The future of Darwin Nunez has been well documented.
“There’s an opportunity for him to leave. I think the expectation is that he will be sold, and therefore, we could see somebody come in in that position.
“I think Liverpool are among those understandably that have liked Alexander Isak.
“There’s admiration for somebody like Hugo Ekitike. Decisions will have to be made, and I’m sure that’s something Liverpool are thinking about and will have multiple options, no doubt, if and when that situation develops.”
Isak enjoyed a brilliant campaign at the Tyneside club after he put in a run of productive performances as the spearhead of their attack. The 25-year-old participated in 42 matches for the Magpies last season, scoring 27 goals and picking up six assists in all competitions.
The Swedish talent did well to average 3.10 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League and kept 43.2% of his attempts on target. Isak was even accurate when distributing the ball in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 75.3% in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).

Isak is proficient at finding some space for himself to get a few strikes in on target. He has proven himself to be a lethal finisher in front of the opposition goal.
The Swedish talent can even create the odd chance for his teammates up top but needs to work on improving his link-up play up top. Standing at 1.92m, he can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels.
Isak would add plenty of goals to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s attack. He has what it takes to nail down a regular starting spot at Anfield next season. The Sweden international would serve as an upgrade over Darwin Nunez, who has struggled to find consistency at the Merseyside club thus far.
At 25, Isak will only get better over the next few years. Thus, he would be a dream signing for the Reds to pursue in this summer transfer window.
