Liverpool have approved construction on their £60million Anfield Road stand expansion to begin.

A ground-breaking ceremony is planned next week to start in earnest the redevelopment, which will see the capacity at Anfield increased by 7,000 to more than 61,000, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds were granted planning permission in June with preparatory enabling works having taken place behind the stand throughout the summer.

Now construction - with Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd (Buckingham) the principal contractor - can begin with Liverpool hopeful of work being completed in time for the 2023/24 season.

The redevelopment of the Anfield Road stand will follow the same method of the Main Stand, with the build taking place throughout the season while matches continue to be played. The lower tier will be retained and refurbished with a new upper tier built above it.
