On the Premier League final day, Liverpool and Chelsea qualified for the Champions League, Leicester finished fifth, West Ham sixth and Tottenham seventh.

There was also a final piece of history made by a Premier League legend.

Here’s what went down …

Aston Villa vs Chelsea

Scorers: Traoré 43′, El Ghazi 52′; Chilwell 70′

Chelsea finished fourth despite defeat at Villa Park.

Just before half-time, Bertrand Traoré gave Villa a shock lead when he swept in at the near post following a well worked corner routine.

After he collided with the post in the first half, Chelsea had to substitute goalkeeper Edouard Mendy at half-time, with Kepa Arrizabalaga coming on to replace him.

And early in the second half Villa got a penalty when Jorginho brought down Traoré. Anwar El Ghazi stepped up and rolled it into the corner for 2-0.

Timo Werner then had the ball in the net for the Blues, but it was disallowed for offside.

However Ben Chilwell did pull one back 20 minutes from time with a volley which just crossed the line.

Blues captain Cesar Azpilicueta was then sent off for lashing out at Jack Grealish in the final minutes.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Scorers: Mané 36′, 74′

Liverpool beat their old boss Roy Hodgson on his final game in charge of Palace to seal a third place finish.

The visitors had some chances in the early stages but Liverpool finally took the lead nine minutes before half-time, when Sadio Mané poked home from a corner.

And with 16 minutes to go, Mané got his second goal with a thumping effort to seal the deal for the Reds.

Leicester vs Tottenham

Scorers: Vardy (P) 18′, (P) 52′; Kane 41′, Schmeichel OG 77′, Bale 87′, 90+6′

Leicester twice let their lead slip to drop out of the top four on the final day of the season for the second year running.

Jamie Vardy gave the Foxes the lead with a confident finish from the penalty spot after he had been brought down by Toby Alderweireld.

But Harry Kane equalised for Spurs four minutes before half-time after a looped cross from Son Heung-min.

Early in the second half Leicester got another penalty when Davinson Sanchez brought down Vardy, and the striker again stepped up to score for 2-1.

But then a Kasper Schmeichel own goal levelled it up again for Spurs, setting up a dramatic finale.

And then Gareth Bale completed the comeback for Spurs after Kane had rounded Schmeichel and pulled it back for the Welshman to score.

Bale then added another goal in stoppage time to compound Leicester’s misery.

That result means Spurs will be England’s representative in the inaugural Europa Conference League.

West Ham vs Southampton

Scorers: Fornals 30′, 33′, Rice 86′

A solid win for West Ham sealed a very respectable sixth-placed finish.

Pablo Fornals gave them the lead with a smashing goal after half an hour, before doubling his tally to make it 2-0 a few minutes later.

Declan Rice then sealed the three points with a goal to make it 3-0 in the dying stages.

Manchester City vs Everton

Scorers: De Bruyne 11′, Jesus 14′, Foden 53′, Agüero 71′, 76′

It was Sergio Agüero’s last dance for the champions and he said farewell in style with a brace off the bench to set a new Premier League record.

Kevin De Bruyne gave City an early lead when he found the bottom corner with a sumptuous strike after a nice passing move.

Moments later it was 2-0, with Gabriel Jesus applying the finish after confusing Jordan Pickford with a clever feint.

Everton were then awarded a penalty when Richarlison was felled in the box by Rúben Dias. Gylfi Sigurðsson stepped up but Ederson saved it.

City went 3-0 up early in the second half, when Phil Foden finished well after being played in by Raheem Sterling.

Agüero then came off the bench to make his final Premier League appearance, and within minutes he had scored two goals taking his tally to 260 for City.

That sets a new record for the most goals scored by a player for a single Premier League club, previously held by Wayne Rooney.

Arsenal vs Brighton

Scorers: Pépé 49′, 60′

Arsenal finished outside the European spots but ended their season on a high.

It was a goalless first half at the Emirates but early in the second half, Nicolas Pépé broke the deadlock with his 15th goal of the season.

Right on the hour mark the Ivorian winger got his second of the day to put the Gunners 2-0 up.
