In a recent report, Calciomercato claimed that Liverpool are among clubs hoping to land Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. It has been mentioned that the Reds could face competition in the form of Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in pursuit of the Spain international.

Williams’ Impressive Run Of Form In Spanish Football

Williams is having a productive campaign at San Mames Stadium as he has put in several eye-catching displays on the right side of Bilbao’s attack. The 20-year-old has found the back of the net four times and secured five assists in 19 matches for both his club and country this season on all fronts.

The talented youngster has been a consistent performer down the right flank based on his average of 1.7 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been tidy when linking up play with others around him in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 79.1% in league football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract with Bilbao is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Hence, Liverpool might have a good shot at recruiting him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.

What Will Wiliams Bring To Anfield?

Williams can create space for himself to get some strikes in on-target and has got the vision to play a few inviting passes in the final third. He is a great dribbler with the ball as well and can contribute by netting and creating his fair share of goals from the right flank. The Spain international has proven his worth as a valuable member of Bilbao’s match-day squad so far this season.

We can expect Williams to bring more goals and creativity to Jurgen Klopp‘s frontline at Anfield. He will no doubt offer some serious competition for Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz for a regular starting spot at the Merseyside club in the coming seasons.

Williams is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also fill in as a left-winger if needed. Hence, he will give Klopp more options on the attacking third of the field and could even help Liverpool challenge for even more trophies over the next decade.

At 20, the future looks quite promising for Williams as long as he continues to improve himself with each season. He is currently enjoying an impressive 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with Spain which could see his value go up if the Reds do not move in quickly for him.
